Rapture 90's: A South African Collective

Published on: 21-Nov-2024

Rapture 90s is a South African world music and highlife rap collective that was founded in 2018. The group comprises producer and rapper Sbu Blu, lead rapper K Hippo, and lead vocalist Cesh. The Group dropped its first single titled “Sondela” in 2020, which has been doing exceptionally well on Spotify and Youtube.

We haven't released any music that is specifically related to the holiday season. However, we are open to exploring different genres and styles of music, so it is possible that they may release holiday-themed music in the future and it could be more inspirational but groovy.

With us being more of a group, we are inspired by certain flows but then when Cesh, one of our lead singers, comes up with a chorus it makes it easy to accommodate the bars. K Hippo once said, "We cook more hits in the lab, we like Dexter" and when you watch the drama series you see our studio resemblance. Sbu Blu is always a mastermind when it comes to production and flow. It is difficult to say what our Christmas soundtrack would sound like. However, given our eclectic style, it is likely that our Christmas song would incorporate elements of world music and highlife rap, with a soulful and upbeat vibe. Our music is influenced by a variety of cultures from around the world, including African, Indian, and Latin American cultures, these shape the group's music during the festive season. We are more into gigs this season and connecting with other artists whom we believe we could be of value to. We don't have a specific way to approach our songwriting besides being in a studio session that is positive, vibrant, and flowing. We would like to believe that art is better influenced by energy. Southern Africa is a space where music is determined by the drum signature but with us being able to mix drum signatures shows that we can be creative in our own way.

We are not just trying to be different but believe that a person is not conformed to a specific genre. In the future, we'd like to explore Jazz because we believe that it is one Genre that we have not seen ourselves being challenged with.

One collaboration experience that stands out is "C.R.E.W" which we did before we dropped "Sondela" but there is a new upcoming song that we believe our fans will appreciate. We are creatives and for us, it all goes with how we feel and what our fans need or features.

We are looking forward to dropping a single because we understand how much music our supporters are willing to take. We are also starting to believe that our fans believe in performance presence more than just music.

To be honest, nothing beats seeing your supporters singing along and bringing their families to our shows. We would like to believe that, for them, taking pics with us is what they enjoy and connect with.”
